  Will This ELM Work with My Car?(MUST READ)

  The OBD II ELM interface is specially designed to work   with all OBD II compliant vehicles. It is required by EPA   that All 1996 and newer vehicles (cars and light trucks)   sold in the United States must be OBD II compliant and   this includes all Domestic, Asian and European   vehicles.

  A small number of 1994 and 1995 model year gasoline   vehicles are OBD II compliant. To verify if a 1994 or 1995   vehicle is OBD II compliant, check the Vehicle   Emissions Control Information (VECI) Label which is   located under the hood or by the radiator of most   vehicles. If the vehicle is OBD II compliant, the label will   designate ?OBD II Certified?. Additionally, Government   regulations mandate that all OBD II compliant vehicles   must have a ?common? sixteen-pin Data Link Connector   (DLC).

  For your vehicle to be OBD II compliant, it must have a   16 pin DLC (Data Link Connector) under the dash and   the Vehicle Emission Control Information Label must   state that the vehicle is OBD II compliant. This label is   located on the inside of the hood on most vehicles.

  How to Use?
  * For laptops and PCs, download the shareware     scantoo_net
  * Run it and follow the prompts to allow it to install itself.     Note: You must install software on your PC's hard disk     -- it will not work properly if you try running it directly     from a floppy or CD. However, you can use a floppy or     CD to move the distribution file from a PC with internet     access to another PC that does not have internet     access.
  * Connect the interface between the computer and the     car by plugging one end of the interface into a Serial     (RS232) (or USB port ) on your PC and the other end     directly into the OBD-II port present in all 1996 and     newer OBD2 passenger vehicles.
  * Turn the car's ignition switch ON. No need to start the     engine.
  * Start the software program, click "Options", select the     correct communications port. Use "Test" to confirm     that the program can use the port and find the     interface.Then "Save".
  * Now it works. Make sure the software can reliably     access all the control modules that it should in your     car.

  Read diagnostic trouble fault codes, both generic and   manufacturer-specific, and display their meaning (over   3000 generic fault code definitions in the database). ·   Clear fault trouble fault codes and turn off the MIL   ("Check Engine" "Service soom"light) · Show current   sensor data, including: o Engine RPM o Calculated   Load Value o Coolant Temperature o Fuel System   Status o Vehicle Speed o Short Term Fuel Trim o Long   Term Fuel Trim o Intake Manifold Pressure o Timing   Advance o Intake Air Temperature o Air Flow Rate o   Absolute Throttle Position o Oxygen sensor   voltages/associated short term fuel trims o Fuel System   status o Fuel Pressure

  What are the system and computer requirements?

  A PC running Windows: It is recommended to use at   least a Pentium-100 (or AMD equivalent) with 16MB of   RAM and Windows 95 or newer. software may work on   some lesser PC's, but anything less than the above   recommendation is unsupported. Windows 95, 98, ME,   NT4, 2000, and XP are all fine. Available disk-space is a   total non-issue, software requires less than 1 MB.
